Easy wearing summer clothes... that's whats on my sewing checklist. Nothing fussy, please. It's starting to get hotter and it's humid today. Soon it will be a constant 90F (33C) and up for months here in the fine city of Baltimore. McCall's 6744 was exactly what I needed. I made View A but with a racerback to shake things up. I made a medium (size 12-14) and graded to about almost a 16 at the hip. I paid $2 for a few yards of this 100% cotton jersey fabric at a thrift store last fall. It was waiting to be a swingy, simple little summer number, eh?!
I think I like the dresses belted better. The red one makes it I do think myself. This was such an easy pattern to sew up, a beginner would love it and someone with experience can enjoy some instant gratification.
The waist of the dress is a basic elastic and it just slides over my
head. I added 1.5" (3.8cm) to the length of the bodice. I've found
McCall's bodices a bit short for me (I'm 5'8"/173cm.)
My neckline is perfect and my hemline is, too. Not a ripple, bump or imperfection. I didn't use a twin needle, I need to replace it since it seems to be getting dull. A single straight, longer finishing stitch does the job.
Now time for more easy, breezy summer things. I have some fun vintage 70s patterns I want to try next. Also, I entered this polka dot dress in the Natural Fibers Contest on PatternReview. Why not?!
