Violet Drapey Dress

I have yards and yards and yards of modal and bamboo rayon knits in various colors in my stash.  I originally acquired it a couple years ago when I was selling my garments retail and wholesale.  Over the weekend I found Simplicity 1716, an adorable pattern that looked perfect for this super stretchy, drapey material.

I made a modified  version of View A.  If I followed the pattern recommendations I should have made a 16 bust with 18/20 hip... I made a 12.  The fabric is super duper stretchy so it was critical to make it smaller to fit properly.  The skirt was a bit boxy and straight so I made it into an a-line... a better look for girls with hips and a bum.  I added about four inches to the hem and about two to the sleeve length.

I added a simple belt because my figure prefers a cinched waist on dress.  Also, the fabric is fairly heavy (but some how also very light and flowy?!) and pulls down and looks weird on my back.

Belted!  It helps nip the dress in on my back waistline.

The back neckline detail is pretty.  It's a few inches of narrow elastic sewn inside to create the soft shirring.
