The Never Ending Search for the Perfect Skirt
Another day, another skirt. I finally just realized I'm in search of the perfect everyday, go-to skirt pattern. I think this may be on the short list of perfect skirts. It's Simplicity 1760 (View E), a lovely example of a straight skirt. For me, it's more of a "curvy skirt"- I cut a 16 waist with an 18/20 hip... which translates to about a 12 in ready-to-wear clothes. Oh, vanity sizing! I've heard many a time that Marylin Monroe was a size 14, but I am pretty sure she was likely a small 6 with today's standards. Anyhow...
This skirt was a snap to sew. I used a heavy weight cotton black jacquard. I love the textured pattern on it. This was another remnant from a Fabric Mart's mystery bundle. I like it so much I would have bought it if I saw it listed on their Web site.
The skirt isn't lined so I made sure to serge the seams this time. I barely followed the directions except when it came to the kick pleat in back- really to just make sure I did it right. And of course I didn't use a black zipper to match. I'm on a purple kick so I used a purple one... with a super cute purple lace hem tape.
I made the red top earlier this year. It's a Simplicity 2554 sewn with a bamboo knit. I've worn it twice- one for Valentine's Day and then when I took these photos. I can't get used to the flouncy sleeves. Here is my review of it on PatternReview.com.

It sure looks great and you, and emphasize your beautiful curves. Embrace them! The back looks perfectly fitted!
ReplyDeleteThanks! :)
DeleteChris just told me about your sewing blog -- yay! Very cute skirt.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Heather! I thought I'd start back up blogging... it helps give me closure or something to each thing I've been working on.
DeleteReally nice. I have that pattern and have never done anything with it...I may just take it out over the holidays and see what I can make with it.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I really like this pattern because sits high right on the waistline
